Lenten Almsgiving

Lenten Almsgiving has begun in earnest across the MAC!

All the primary schools have taken part in the Good Shepherd Appeal, run by Father Hudson’s which supports social care projects across the Archdiocese of Birmingham.  As well as the Good Shepherd Appeal all schools have been busy coming up with new and inventive ways to help and support different charities.

The children at Our Lady and St Joseph have held cake sales throughout Lent to raise money for those in need. All money raised will be used to buy food for the Nuneaton Foodbank which collects from Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church. The School Councillors and Learning Councillors will take to the supermarket to stock up on food to deliver to the Church.

St Benedict’s have been raising money from cake sales for Chinthowa, a school in Milawi supported by the Chinthowa development Trust and the Pastoral Care Project ‘Dementia Week’.  St Francis held a ‘Readathon’ which will help buy books and readers for children who are ill in hospital.

St Francis also took part in the CAFOD Family Fast Day on 10th March and have been working with the Sister of Providence to make links with a school in Madagascar, whom the school will be raising money for.

On Wednesday 22nd of March, Years 7-10 pupils from St Thomas More took part in events organised by Year 12 students as part of their RE ASDAN course. These events included baking, dodge ball, a scavenger hunt, an afternoon at the cinema, football and an Xbox tournament. Students paid to participate in the event of their choice with proceeds going to a variety of charities including Chinthowa village in Malawi, CAFOD, Catholic Pastoral Care Project, Catholic fellowship and Fr Sarrs and his school in India.

Through these acts of Lenten Almsgiving the children are truly learning by example, the act of kindness and supporting those in need. Thank you to all who have donated to these events across the schools, it’s wonderful to see how much we can achieve when we join together!
