Bring on the Games!
On Friday 7th July 2017, the inaugural Holy Spirit MAC Games was held at the Pingles Stadium, Nuneaton and the sun was shining!
All four primary school bought 16 pupils from years 3, 4, 5 and 6 to compete in a full day of events, over 250 pupils in total!
Year 3 and 4 took part in athletics with traditional events such as a 400m race, an 80m sprint, long jump and javelin as well as a kwik cricket competition! Meanwhile year 5 and 6 played a round robin of netball and tag rugby, playing a total of 14 games each throughout the day!
The day began with a blessing from Fr Matthew, Chaplain at St Thomas More School. Fr Matthew blessed the games and all those participating, reminding us to enjoy the day and play with Christian spirit.
As well as teachers and teaching assistants from across each school, the day was supported by 32 year 9 pupils from St Thomas More. These pupils worked tirelessly all day keeping score, helping run the events, cheering on all those taking part and were absolutely pivotal to the success of the day! We'd like to thank each and everyone of these pupils for helping out and supporting the MAC games. They were credit to themselves, their parents, the school and the MAC!
After a beautiful sunny day of sprinting, throwing, jumping, catching, passing, tagging and scoring, all schools gathered together for the presentation of the awards.
Trophies were given out to the year groups who won the athletics, kwik cricket, netball and tag rugby with Our Lady and St Joseph being crowned overall winners!
We also had the 'Sporting Spirit' award, which was awarded to a pupil from each year group, from each of the schools to those who had shown Christian spirit and sportsmanship throughout the day. In total sixteen 'Sporting Spirit' awards were given out to those who had shown a true demonstration of our motto 'with grace and humility, glorify the Lord by your life'.
We would like to thank all the children who participated for their wonderful behaviour during the day, their sportsmanship, their team spirit and for representing their schools and the MAC with pride. Also a huge thank you to all the teachers and teaching assistants who all helped to make the day a great success!
We look forward to holding the MAC games again next year, let's see who the next champions will be!
